FORWARDS & BACKS

Fyfe (Freo) 95 points - $282,900. All the Hype out of Freo seems to be on the mark, Fyfe is clean skilled has an awesome tank and hands that have earned him the nickname Avitar from his team mates. When he claps they stick.

Robbie Tarrant (NthM ) 104 points - $122,500. Could this be his year. Tarrant will be hoping to put his injury probs behind him and showed his body was in great shape in his 104 display against the Eagles on Sunday. He moved with ease and showed total class in taking 8 marks and making 6 tackles to go with his 21 disposals. He has no risk at all of loosing his place and could even end up as a 7th back keeper. At least pocket you some very handy coin.

Shaun McKernan (Adel) 83 points - $97,600. Like Tarrant this is not McKernan's first year in the system and he to was also a fairly high draft pick at 28, so he has plenty of class and is now developed into the ideal size for a big man. He showed his NAB form was no fluke with a quality display in the Crows win over the Hawks. He showed off his versatility with a decent stint in the ruck in which he amassed 13 hit outs. From what I have seen this support role to Maric should continue at the very least until the return from injury of Jacobs. In saying that Maric might be the one who will be looking over his houlder when the time comes. He is alos Dual Position as an added bonus. Get on!

Tapscott (Melb) 80 points - $97,600. Another 2nd year player at next to bottom dollar Tapscott has a physique like a season campaigner showed just the class and talent that the Demon's faithful have been waiting for.

Darling (WC) 64 points - $92,500. The once touted first pick for the 2010 draft was an absolute steel at 26 with a bad attitude sighted as one of the reason. Darling looks to be well on track and showed he could be an out and out gun for the eagles for years to come. I loved his tackling and he is a beautiful kick and mark. Eagles need all the youn talent they can get so he is another that is sure to play a lot of games in 2011,Unknownnoreply@blogger.com153tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6328626750389504988.post-53803286538375145282011-03-28T21:55:00.002+10:002011-03-28T23:42:40.755+10:00WTF happened to my Dream Team!If you are asking yourself this question you sure are not alone after a round full of ups and downs for most Dream Team coaches. But DON'T PANIC! It's just round 1.

This is my 9th year of Dream Team and I like to think I go OK. So I thought I might pass on a few tips and mention some of the mistakes I have made over the years.

Until last season I had always thought you have to be right up there in the top 500 all season to have any kind of shot at the Toyota. Most years I have finished top 1000 and around the 300 mark was my past best. But things fell into place last season, I dodged some injuries and managed to grab 7th overall. I was pretty stoked in the end. Close but no cigar. You've gotta feel for the dude(I think it was a guy from memory) who came 2nd overall that is harsh, not even a Toyota keyring :) But back to the point.

Last week I was looking over the weekly team print-out that work kindly fund and had a scan through my rankings over the season. At round 7 last year I was way back in the 5000s and wasn't even considering top 100. It goes to show just how much ground you can make once you get your side up and running. I think the thing I did right last year was trad hard early. I made a couple of big errors. especially rucks ( Mitch Clarke and Seaby were the low points) but I got my team settled by about round 7-8 and sat on my trades. Trying to keep close to 1 trade in the bank for the amount of weeks left is a good guide. But the point is you just need to be patient and very selective when you do trade. By low sell high. Sounds obvious but it's the key to Dream Team, you've got to play the market. Also as a rule make sure your trade is going to either make you at least 100k for a down grade or the player you bring in will be a genuine keeper if not keep your trade in the bank cause you only get 24.

One of the biggest mistakes you can make and one I know I have done it in years gone by is Panic Trade after round 1 or 2. After hours researching your team, making a a number of tough calls between player a and player b, weighing up dual position, age, durability, consistency and so on. Or even if you just picked your favourite players you picked them for a reason so stick to your guns!

If you are like me you looked down your team sheet today identified the let downs, and there were a few, (Foley being the stand-out). thought about the regrets, the almost picks and the last minute trade outs that were a HUGE MISTAKE! You are probably a tad miffed and already thinking about who will be replaced be a cheaper, higher scoring player that you think you really should have picked in the first place. STOP and think why you picked that player to start with. Was it numerous matches to finish last season or a pretty solid NAB cup? We have had one round, just one. All players have bad games. We have 33, they can't possibly kill it week in week out and that goes for round one as well. The biggest waste of Trades in Dream Team is burning a trade especially a keeper after 1 or 2 bad games to start the season.

I actually recommend not trading at all after round one unless you have to replace an injured player.

If you are super serious about your Dream Team and are gunning for the car or at least have an eye on it as long as you are confident with your original side a bad week one is no big deal.

Good luck in round 2 and hopefully this ramble makes some sense to someone :)Unknownnoreply@blogger.com21tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6328626750389504988.post-55532655330867771012011-03-01T00:38:00.002+10:002011-03-01T00:39:15.025+10:00McKenna sheds some Light on SunsThis probably doesn't come as a huge surprise to most Dream Team coaches but and does make a lot of sense but Guy McKenna gives a pretty solid indication on his thinking in regards to mature age players at the suns in this recent Q&A

Have you got your best 22 settled?

"I don't think we're far off it. The eight uncontracted players pick themselves and then we'll assess Karmichael Hunt and Nathan Ablett and how they're travelling. Our mature-aged boys – Danny Stanley, Sam Iles, Daniel Harris and Michael Coad – aren't walk-up starts but with their experience and size of their bodies they're a better than average chance of getting in. Then it's really the kids that have shown enough in the pre-season, which is no different to other clubs. I would think there's at least eight to 10 of our young kids I would have no hesitation in picking for round two, so that's a good sign."

In my opinion from what I have seen and from reading between the lines, at worst McKenna will be starting with the mature bodied players and filtering in the talented kids when the time is right throughout the season.

So the for mentioned all should be pretty safe bets at least for the first half of the year. By then we will have traded them or be looking to turn them into guns.
Unknownnoreply@blogger.com9tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6328626750389504988.post-4831135142508580652011-02-28T20:14:00.009+10:002011-03-01T00:41:25.941+10:00Craig talks up CallinanIn a recent Neil Craig Q&A on the Crows website Neil talks highly of Callinan pushing his claims for a birth in my Dream Team for 2011. Is he on your radar?

The club has an opening on its senior list to play a nominated rookie as early as round one of the season proper. Rookies Ian Callinan and Matt Wright both played in the first round of the NAB Cup, but is it fair to say Callinan is leading that race?

"Ian has been very good in his preparation the whole pre-season and I thought his performance the other Friday night…the longer he played the more comfortable he looked and that was to be expected.
He certainly noticed the change in speed compared to the SANFL, but he adapted really well. Whether he can continue the improvement to warrant a position on the senior list and to fill that vacancy, I'm open minded about it. From what I've seen so far Ian should've been in the system four or five years ago. Senior coaches, recruiters and I owe him an apology. I had an opportunity to recruit him just as all the other clubs did five years ago, but we thought we were too smart."

Later in reference to Adelaide's forward line set up Craig also mentions McKernan as well as Callinan so both look to be in his plans.

"If we can keep Jason Porplyzia up there fit and healthy with Dangerfield, Ricky Henderson, Chris Knights, Taylor Walker, Shaun McKernan - because I thought he showed a bit last weekend - and maybe a Callinan… we've got those types of players who can go through the forward line, so we have some talent there. We've just got to make sure we don't just rely on Kurt to be able to take a strong contested mark. We need to share the workload."
As stated in my recent post Callinan comes in at the juicy Mature Rookie price of $80,400 (M/F)
McKernan in his 2nd year is also dual Pos. and is priced at $97,600 (F/B)
Unknownnoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6328626750389504988.post-56221700214984657792011-02-07T21:00:00.002+10:002011-02-08T12:38:39.991+10:00Mature Age Rookies on the RadarIan Callinan (FWD/MID, $80,400) ADEL
Won Jack Oatey Medal as best afield in this year's SANFL grand final and finds himself in career best form at the ripe age of 27. Touted as a possible goal scoring replacement for the Porpz, enabling him the freedom to move to the midfield. Callinan was taken at pick 64 in the rookie draft and after his impressive itra club match last week looks to have a foot in the door to a round one birth.

Paul Puopolo (DEF, $92,500) HAW
Recruited from Norwood and taken by Hawthorn at pick 66, 22yr old Puopolo looks to be the front runner to grab the hole left be the departure of Campbell Brown to the Suns. He was a stand out in Hawthorn's intra-club game in Tasmania. He is hard at the ball and is blessed with a nice turn of foot.

Nick Duigan (DEF, $92,500) CARL
Another Norwood recruit Duigan is 26 and comes to Carlton with pick 70 in the 2010 National Draft, Duigan showed talent as a youngster but injury set backs have severely hampered his career to date. He is known for his strong mark and rebound out of defence. Nick is another one to keep a close eye on in the NAB Cup.

Tendai Mzungu (FWD/MID, $92,500) FREO
MATURE-AGE Fremantle recruit Tendai Mzungu looks to be first in line to replace injured teammate Roger Hayden across half-back for Fremantle this season. The 24-year-old, has been a standout runner and looks well suited to the half-back role. Mzungu polled 20 Sandover Medal votes last year and won WAFL club Perth's best-and-fairest. Despite his Fwd/Mid classification Mzungu played more of a mid/back role for Perth in doing so amassing 28 possessions per match. Could be a more than handy Dream Teamer with DP as a bonus.

Wayde Twomey (Mid, $80,400) CARL
Made the switch from Werriby to Swan Districts in the WAFL at the end of 07 and is looking to have a similar impact to that of ex team mates Barlow and J-Pod. Wayde is 24 yrs old and is determind to prove himself in what may be his only crack at the big time. He had a run with the Western Bulldogs in 2006 and '07 after showing promise as a youngster with Werribee. Twomey is a mid come rebounding defender and was a shock pick at 51 in last year's AFL rookie draft.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6328626750389504988.post-3458827394259554552011-01-30T22:03:00.003+10:002011-01-31T19:13:49.228+10:00One for the Watchlist!Bryce Gibbs

If Bryce's new B/C classification wasn't already enough to have him locked into your Dream Team the talk that he will be spending a lot more time in the midfield surely will.

Kane Lukas may also be worth consideration as talk of regular mid-field roll is also mentioned. He will also come in way under value after his 6 and 7 both scored when struck by injury. So look for massive improvement from the youngster if he can keep those hammies in good shape.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com18tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6328626750389504988.post-30526981909280015562011-01-30T21:39:00.004+10:002011-01-30T21:42:48.618+10:00One for the Watchlist!Nick Duigan

Mature age players are on every Dream Team coach's radar this yr. After the likes of J-POD and Barlow last season put the gun state league players in the spotlight we are all looking for this yrs versions. Nick played a cracking finals series for Norwood in the SANFL last yr and was picked up at pick 70 in the this years pre-season draft.

Mature-aged recruit Nick Duigan was also impressive, as he amassed a number of possessions and displayed great composure off half-back.
The 2010 draft smoky can consider himself a certainty to be named in Carlton's NAB Cup team to face Richmond and Collingwood at Etihad Stadium on February 12.
"As a 26-year-old he sees the opportunity as a big one in his life and you can see that in the way he plays," Ratten said.
"He's very hard at it and wants to make a big splash at our football club."

So keep a close eye on him during the NAB cup as he is sure to be priced at rookie price but with the hard body of a senior AFL player.

1. Make sure you have at least one absolute gun. I would normally recommend Swan but with his 2 byes by round 13 alternatives like Montagna or Boyd may be an option. An investment in any of these players is well worth it. Keep in mind if you do stick with the Swan as pricey as he may seem. You are in-effect getting 2 of him once you put the (C) next to his name. double 100 = 200 but double 115 = 230. So for the the extra 50k or so you are getting 30pts per week.

2. Add up future upgrades. Look at your team across the board. Count the number of players you will need to upgrade to have it filled with guns by season end. Any more than 7 or 8 is a bit too much. I will be reserving around 8 swaps for injuries. the other 16 will be used for upgrades and downgrades. This is a reasonably aggresive approach. If you are more in it for the league win you may want to leave a few more trades for upgrades and play a more conservative approach.

3. Check the fixture card. When choosing your rookies this is very important. When you are looking at ditching a rookie who is close enough to maxed out by about round 7 a player who's team with a friendly run to start the season might be the way to go. Of course the dreaded byes will also play a big part in this decision this year if you are tawn between two rookies you like but have room for just one the one with the byes price will ofcourse take that extra week to rise so it may be the deciding factor.

4. Check for injuries. Even if it means doing a GOOGLE news search every player in your list. you may even discover an off season injury that has interrupted one of your players pre-season. Meaning there score output may not be at the level you are expecting.

5. Cross your fingers when those teams come out. With a bit of luck all your team will be named and you want have to make a mess of your perfectly selected Dream Team at the last minute.

He was just OK last year possibly making his owners enough cash before dumping his inconsistent cash cow arse. He finished the year averaging 51 and comes to this season with the fairly reasonable price tag of $221,000. This may not seem like great value when you think of the stay at home full forward type Walker was last season. But with Tippet making the goal square his own walker has been forced further up the ground meaning he has had to develop more of an all-round game. Walker has done just this. Reports are that he has worked extremely hard on strengthening his body as well as his endurance. Running 3km time trials equal to that of the mid-fielders. According to assistant coach David Noble the plan is for him to play more of a McLeod like Half Forward come Mid-Field role. I'm not saying lock him in or anything crazy but with some more game time in the last NAB cup round he may just hit a decent point return and show us a glimpse of things to come. Slotting him in to the Dream Team over the likes of Ballantyne and Dangerfield may be a gamble but Walker may just repay the faith.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6328626750389504988.post-60033079039505258112010-03-01T21:14:00.003+10:002010-03-02T12:39:00.365+10:00Top 5 Cash Cows after NAB Round 2Yes! No Scully, Trengrove or Martin. Martin is the one that I could have squeezed in but at the prices of these 3 I believe a cheaper alternative is a much better option when choosing your Cows. Reason being there price will rise a whole lot quicker as well as greater potential to make money on price rises. As well as that, with the extra $150,000.00 left over you can turn one of your mid price players into a lock in keeper.

1. Michael Barlow- All he needs is rookie elevation and he is a must have. absolute ball magnet and Mature means he has the ready made body to go. averaged over 30 possessions in the VFL an dlooks like continuing his form if the first to NAB matches are any guide.

2. Jarrod Kaylor-Thomson- If he gets elevation jump on board! Another mature age player, at 24 Jarrod arrives at Hawthorne as one of their 2 mature age recruits under the new rule. after spending the last 5 seasons in Perth JKT has developed his game to the level where he should be able to slot straight into the Hawks line up. Used most as a half back over the past years he is known for his great ability to hit targets from long range by foot. Due to this he has a very high kick to handball ratio and has always been a big ball win. Should be one of the Cash Cows of the year. Started with 98 Dream Team points in his first NAB game against the Dogs, in which the Hawks were smashed.

3. Luke Shuey- In his second year at the club Shuey as fitted in beautifully so far finding a lot of the pill and is at the right price.

4. Mitch Banner- Mitch averaged more DT points than anyone else through 2008 TAC cup and u/18 Champs (105) Next best was Dangerfield with 92. He has tones of class loves a goal and looking more and more like a lock for round one of the season proper.

5. Tom Rockliff- He played just one game late last last year scoring 23 against Collingwood. In the 2 NAB Cup games so far he has scores of 87 & 89 making him the clean stand-out bottom price forward at this stage. If you are one who likes to take a couple of Risks Starting Tom on your field in your forwards could be a master stroke. Just make sure you have good depth as Brisbane's starting lineup will be hotly contested.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com28tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6328626750389504988.post-36959249131816027522010-02-25T22:23:00.004+10:002010-03-01T20:30:41.799+10:00AFL Dream Team Smokies to ConsiderMatt Suckling (Haw) $158,500: After 3 years on the Hawks Rookie list Sucking looks set to be given his chance this season. At 22yrs of age Suckling has a massive chance to make himself a regular in the Hawks backline. After playing just the one game in round one last season against Geelong when covering for the Hawks massively depleted list. In Suckling's first NAB cup game he put his best foot forward collecting 16 touches and kicking a goal. As a back and at a first year player price he is one to monitor closely through the remainder of the pre-season.

Jack Steven (StK) $200,400: Steven was the youngest player picked in his draft year and played his first
game in round 20 against the Hawks tasting success and in doing so picking up 14 touches and scoring 76 DT points. Stevns played in the round one NAB cup match against Collingwood however was troubled by an ankle injury he picked up in the first quarter and was subbed off in the 3rd. So don't let the low score put you off if you are keen on Jacky.

Nick Salter (PORT) $222,900: Salter has played most of is Career as a forward but according to Chad Cornes he is set to make a move to the Port Defence. In Salter's 5 matches late last year he put together a couple of nice DT scores including a 79 against the Hawks in R18 and an 83 against the Lions in R21. The first NAB cup game backed up Chad's claims as Salter racked up 86 Dream Team points which included a sensational kick to handball ratio of 17:2. This boy knows how to play Dream Team football. Keep your eye on him.

James Strauss (Melb) $94,500: After an injury interrupted first season Melboune's 3rd pick in last years draft and pick 19 overall, James will be very keen to turn his bad luck around after a smooth pre-season. Strauss improved as the match went on looking fairly comfortable is his first hit-out at the top grade. Strauss averaged 75 Dream Team points throughout the TAC Cup and with Melbounre looking to play as many talented youngsters from Round one he will be pushing for a start. Could also be a sneaky alternative to Scully or Trengrove and being a year old he may just outperform them both.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6328626750389504988.post-34897505125523971752010-02-16T20:44:00.000+10:002010-02-16T20:44:18.299+10:00Second Year Dream Team BargainsWhen picking your team having a point of difference may be the key to a toyota, or at least success.

Most People will be filling their mids with 3 or even 4 of this years first round draft picks. Players like Trengove, Scully, Martin & etc will me extremely popular. Of course these players are probably a safe option but will be in almost every team.

Player you may want to consider :

Luke Shuey (WC):
Shuey is one to watch closley over this NAB cup campaign. He was drafted at No.18 in the 08 pre season draft after average a massive 12 contested possesions per game in the TAC Cup. In the Round one NAB cup ame against Essendon he played just the second half in doing so emassed 49 DT points with 36 of these coming in the last quarter. Yes Essendon were being steamrolled late but Shuey was clearly finding his feet more and more as the match progressed. He may not start round one but Worsfold will be looking to inject as much of his young talent as he can from day one.

Phil Davis (Adel):
Davis is of course not a mid but being one of those rare dual position forward/backs many AFL Dream Team coaches are sweating on his Round 1 prospects. On the surface his 16 DT points agains Port does not look all that encouraging. But don't give up on him yet. Davis was just given a small taste of it scoring all his 16 points in the 2nd quarter in a game in which he spent a lot of time warming the extended bench. Davis is the highest drafted player not to get a game in 09. After knocking on the door at the end of last season, one year later and with a very strong season in the SANFL behind him. This versatile big bodied utility will could be ready to start his AFL career. With further game time in the remaining NAB Cup challenge matches he should be right on the cusp of a round 1 start.

Rory Sloane (Adel):
Sloane is a tough inside mid who may have cauht a few Dream Team Coaches eyes in is one appearance last season in round 20 against Hawthorn. From limitted game time he aquited himself very well making a juicey 7 tackles to go along wit his 6 handballs. Sloane also played round one of the NAB cup in the Showdown slaughter. He started te match playing just over half the game in doing so collecting 52 DT points 44 of these in the first half. If named in round one don't hesitate to jump on. But beware the Adelaide line-up is red hot and he may be relying on an injury or 2 to get is chance.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6328626750389504988.post-81408768277760206712010-02-04T23:30:00.010+10:002010-02-05T00:02:36.107+10:00Early Intra Club Stand outs
-
West Coast's Intra-Club Match:
The saying there are many ways to skin a cat has never been more relevant than when you sit down on day one looking at your blank team ready to embark on a brand new AFL Dream Team Season. But the one theory I will discus relates to almost all fantasy owners most despised position. Yes, the band-aid back line. I'm sure I am not the only one who as been struck down late in the season and had to limp home with at least one big fat zero in there backs. So what balance of risky injury returning players, playing rookies (first yr players) and Guns should you go with. My thoughts are...

-The backline is the position that makes the least money in most fantasy teams (Rucks aside)

-There are generally plenty of gun draft picks/cash cows sprinkled through the forwards and mids especially, so money can be easily made there.

-The backline is also the position that in the past has lent itself to a lot of injuries.

The idea is to look for at least 4 preferably 5 backs that have played close to every game in the past 2 seasons and any games they did miss were not injurys that are likely to reoccur. i.e. Hamstring, groin. Players Like Enright, Hargraves and Goddard spring to mind. No real upside, rather boring and obvious even, but a 22 game player that will net you more than a good points return is worth his weight in gold. Just like each trade.

Yes this will chew some dollar, but that's ok because we can gamble a little more in our midfield with one or 2 playing rookies and maybe another 2 players that are on the verge of a breakout season. Knowing that between the 2 rookies on the field and the 2 on your bench you will end up with 2 round one starters and if you have done your research at least one reserve.

Yes, choosing rookie backs can pay off for your AFL Dream Team. Broughton from 09 is a prime example. That said of course you can always jump on after 2 games if they are just too good to pass up. The other bonus with having extra rookies in your mids as opposed to other positions, is when it comes to selling off your cash cows. There is always a plethora of midfield rookies that have jumped out of the blocks with 2 big scores first up to choose from. Where you can have nailed it with a rookie back and are ready to cash in, only to find the there is not a single decent playing first year back to downgrade to.

In the end the less trades you have to waste the better. Picking a side where you can set and forget as many backs as possible might just be the key to get you a league win or who knows maybe even a crack at the a car.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6328626750389504988.post-84921149913154315412008-06-04T22:06:00.002+10:002008-06-04T22:30:37.485+10:00Top 5 Hot Buys of the Week1. Jimmy Bartel - Price $417,100. If you have the Cash now is the time to move. as far as Bartel standards go he has hit rock bottom, after his 115 on the weekend his price is sure to sky rocket.

2. Nick Riewoldt - Price $319,800. Jump on Board! Nick scored 108 on the weekend his best score of the year and his first 100 since round 5. Looks like he is getting on top of his injury problems

3. Johnathan Brown - Price $366,99. If for some strange reason you don't have Browny last chance to get him super cheap as he is sitting on 2 130+ scores and price is ready to hit the 400k mark. grab him now!

4. Brendon Goddard - Price $317,900. Goddard is back! after a slow but steady start to the season he looks like he has turned the corner after a massive 116 on the weekend. Goddard averaged 97 2 seasons ago and 80 last year(again 90 plus if you take away the game that ended his season.

5. Adam McPhee - Price $284,300. McPhee has had a poor start to the season with his price dropping 104k, not once scoring over 85 Dream Team points in his 8 outings. This all changed on the weekend and it was the McPhee of old easily hitting the century with 108. No coincidence at all that this also marked the return of Lucas shifting McPhee back to his more familiar role on the Half Back line.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com60tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6328626750389504988.post-85062742196481284222008-05-29T00:22:00.002+10:002008-05-29T00:29:11.847+10:00DREAM TEAM CASH COWSBacks

EDWARDS, Jake
$119,700 ($+36,200)

74 last week in his fourth match.

HOULIHAN, Tim
$83,500 $0 ($+0)

74 from 1 game. With a price of $72k and a steady start to his career you would think that he would get a good chance with Melbourne desperately needing to develop young talent. Wait for him to be named this week then jump on him.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com8tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6328626750389504988.post-48239270774641619282008-05-29T00:16:00.006+10:002008-06-04T22:03:51.808+10:00BEST BUYSBacks

DRUMMOND, Josh $316,600 $-17,900 ($-58,500)
Ball magnet will finish the year as one of the top 3-4 averaging backs. He is dirt cheap and a must have at his price.

IBBOTSON, Garrick $257,300 +$24,800 ($+160,900)
Still very cheap when you consider he has averaged 87 over the past 4 matches and does not look to be stopping. Just in case you don't already have him act now!

Centres

THOMPSON, Scott $404,800 +$10,000 ($-27,900)
Down a little from his starting price and with his massive 153 on the weekend will not be around the $400k mark for long. He gets a lot of ball, takes marks and can kick a goal. Great Dream Teamer.

VAN BERLO, Nathan $348,000 +$24,900 ($+18,300)
Had a sound start to the season but has averaged close to 100 over his past 4 matches and is value.

CASSISI, Domenic $372,300 $-8,600 ($-8,100) Avg 89.5
Only way is up for Cassisi. He doesn't have to many bad games and as undervalue due to Ports poor start. Look for him to start hitting regular 100's.
BOYD, Matthew $371,500 $-7,900 ($-48,400) Avg 90
Down 48k due to a couple of poor games but still averaging 90 is a good option. Also never gets the tag.

CARRAZZO, Andrew $414,400 $1,300 ($-20,500)
Super consistent with scores of 93, 90, 104, 103, 94, 95, 140, 71, 103 Can't go wrong with Carrazzo. Absolute AFL Dream Team gun!

Forwards

MEDHURST, Paul $339,700 $-18,100 ($+99,000) Avg. 92.56
Pies are hot and Medhurst is part of the reason why. He has flown under the radar to average 92.5 and with a price tag of 339,700 looks a very tempting.

THOMAS, Dale $293,500 +$20,500 ($-36,000) Avg.74.44
After a public plea from Mick to lift Thomas has done just that with last 2 scores 97 & 95 he looks like he has taken his game to the next level where and as a 293k he is a steal.

JOHNSON, Brad $347,800 +$17,300 ($-87,500)
A lot have been holding off putting Johnson into their Dream Team due to the injury cloud that has hung over his head. But looking at the way he moved on the weekend he may have shaken his niggles and at 87k under his starting price it is now time to make your move.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com26tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6328626750389504988.post-55555012013362263522008-05-15T20:36:00.004+10:002008-06-04T22:04:59.737+10:00AFL Dream Team Tip of the weekTime to start foccusing on the cream of the crop at this stage and if you are not upgrading you should be picking up cheap rookies. Try to avoid mid range players as they only mean you will need to use a further upgrade by seasons end to turn them into a gun. And most likely you will make little money out of them, bar a few exceptions. Most of the guys you select in your Dream team from now on should be selected with the view of having them in your team at round 22. So stock up on cash by down grading your Cash Cows and aim high with your guns. You don't want to settle for second best when upgrading as you only get 20 trades so use them wisely.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6328626750389504988.post-54704438961717530752008-05-15T20:00:00.004+10:002008-05-15T21:49:19.199+10:00Peaking Cash CowsIf you are lucky enough to be in a position to be able to down grade this week. And not still reeling over the massive backline dilemma, here are a a list of a few guys that are ready to be offloaded. It is time to bring in the big guns and these guys are on the chopping block.

Forwards

Josh Hill: If you still have him has has to go has been lucky to keep his spot for this long and will struggle to make the final cut this week. Hill has definitely peaked and is ripe for a trade.

Bernie Vince: Vince has maxed out for the time being and with the huge amount of under priced forwards on the market would be a perfect upgrade option.

Cyril Rioli: Not quite ready but close enough when you consider that and of the value forward options will most likely increase equally in dollar value as Rioli if not more over the next 5 weeks. Rioli has been a great Cow for most Dream Teamers but his time is just about up.

Possible pick ups B Johnson, S Johnson, J Brown, M Richardson, Chapman. All great value and will not be at that price for long.

Centres

Cale Morton: He is ready to go, with 3 low scores in a row now and little signs of change in the near future. Would take quite a few weeks for him to turn it around cash wise and by then the bird has flown.

Bachar Houli: Like Rioli he is one you could hold for a few more weeks as he is still in great form and only getting better. Should max out at just over 300k though and with gun mids of such importance it could be time to say bye bye bachar.

If you are looking to downgrade Browne from Carlton is the obvious choice. If an upgrade is on your menu players like Joel Corey, Sam Mitchell, Heath Scotland or Anthony Carrazzo could be good options.

Backs

Ellis: Started the season great but his form has tapered off dramatically. his price has peaked and is on the decline. with his limited game time of an avg of %70 for the season)not looking like changing to soon Ellis (if by some miracle you don't have bigger probs in your backs) has had his time and could be a viable upgrade player.

Phieffer: Looks like he has blown his chance for the moment and if your Cash Cows in other positions are not flourishing might be worth a down grade for a cheeky 100k. Phieffer looks as though he will find it tough to break in to the blues line up especially with Thornton and Hartlett to return.

As far as backs go cheap options are few and far between with Garrick Ibbotson (Freo) looking like the only reliable option atm. Those with some cash to spend would look no further than the likes of Milburn (might wait a week though due to injury cloud) P. Burgoyne seams to be hitting form after confidence boosting Performance for the Dream Team. Josh Drummond who is a little pricey but will rack up the points. maybe give him a look for a week also, and Brendon Goddard who had made a steady start after his knee reco. and should only improve.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6328626750389504988.post-78688471735637706432008-02-27T21:29:00.002+10:002008-02-29T22:10:40.984+10:00Dream Team DynamitesIn this section I will point out a few of the the hot Dream Team prospects for the season ahead. This week focusing on the Backs and mids. Probably the positions where DT is won or lost.

BACKS

SYMES Drafted from Port after limited opportunities last season. A big chance of playing a sweeping roll in defence and have been whisper that he may get a run on the ball from time to time which would even further bolster his DT prospect. @$264,900 he is worth the gamble

PFEIFFER Showed good form in NAB cup round one scoring 89 DT points and does look like securing a starting spot in Carlton's slightly lacking back-line. Could risk him as a starter but might be safer to keep on the bench. With a price tag of $83,500 he doesn't take to much cash out of your starting line up.

PETTERD In his first year he showed great signs to suggest that he is a very DT worthy defender. And has bounced back after his tragic injury last season. I expect him to rack them up in a Melbourne back line that could see a lot of the ball this year. priced at $273,100 has scope for some cash gain.

ELLIS Ellis's big challenge this year will be getting a start in Hawthorn's strong back-line. However if he does he could be well worth your trouble. Ellis didn't get a lot of game time last season averaging 49 from an average of 68 mins from his 13 games. This suggests he could reach an average of 70 with another year under his belt and given that he will get more TOG this year.

KENNELY Due to 3 separate injuries last season Kennely has come in well under price. if you take away the 3 games he was injured early match his average would be 78.9 meaning his start price should more realistically be $350,000 injury risk is a slight problem but if he can recapture his early last season form he could be well worth it.

MID FIELD

VAN BERLO It's time for VB to shine! The crows are looking to give aging reg mid fielders such as Goodwin more time up forward meaning youngsters that have been on the fringes like Riley and especially VB will spend a lot more time in the middle bumping them up from 75 av players to 85-90's as long as they can take there chance. which I think they will.

STEVENS the most obvious lock of the season. @ $237,200 Need I say more.

DYSON Even more so than Adelaide Essendon will be looking at some of there 2nd, 3rd year mids to step up and from all reports Knights is a Dyson fan and he will start in the middle @ $201,800 appears to be a bargain. His 90+ DT score on the weekend could be a sign of things to come.

HOULI Will be interesting to see if HOULI starts in the midfield alongside Dyson and co. He is doing everything in his power to make this happen with sparkling NAB cup for showing off his great ball handling skills! With decent amount of TOG his price won't stay @ $196,800 for long at all.

BOAK Possible future leader of the club Boak was very impressive in his first season finishing with a DT average of 62 from his 13. will be looking to sure up a place in the midfield this year and if so could bump his av up to the 85-90 mark thus making him a cheap long term keeper for all dream teams. Players such as Joel Selwood, Alwyn Davey, Hadley, Nathan Ablett to name just a few are ready to be shipped out and upgraded for some Top shelf Dream Teamers who are going at more than reasonable prices here's a few:

Heath Shaw received a corky in the early minutes last week and is a test this week if he comes up look at grabbing him before round 13. As he will be hanging on to the 9 points game until then. This should drop him to the 230-240k mark, making him way under value and a must have recruit.

Lenny Hayes even after his 106 on the weekend Lenny is Still a great buy at $328,400 down $79,00 from his original asking price. After spending most of this season being eased back from injuries Lenny has found him self only playing more than 80% game time once this season so look for him to start pumping out the big 100's as his fitness reaches his peak and his TOG increases.

Daniel Kerr another gun midfielder going cheap at the moment. If you want Kerr grab him this week or next as he will drop the 35 he scored in round 5 this week and his price tag of $296,200 will be a distant memory as he is a good thing to rediscover his early season form after a 2 week break through suspension.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6328626750389504988.post-86875256315833297592007-05-29T15:04:00.000+10:002007-05-30T22:03:22.230+10:00Form drops ready to bounce backMost of things guys have had an injury of some discription or maybe just a bit of poor these such players could be very handy additions to your Dream Team at a disounted price:

Lenny Hayes (StK): Down $71,000 at could drop more after this week unless he puts a big score together Hayes would be a great buy with a price tag that can only go one way. And that is of course up.

Ben Johnson (Coll): Johnson has dropped a massive $82,100 and sits at the juicey price of $287,200 so gobble him up now before he gets back to the $330,000 mark that he is worth.

Troy Simmonds (Rich): After being injured in the early minutes of his round 6 clash he has a 7 as his most recent score this will be included in his price average for the next to weeks which will drop him even further to around the $260,000 mark $110,000 less than his origonal asking price after a stellar 2006.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6328626750389504988.post-78225448785293734052007-05-29T14:46:00.000+10:002007-05-29T15:03:38.573+10:00Cash Cows of Round 9Mitch Morton (W.C): As far as centres go Morton would have to be the biggest bubble about to burst when it comes to quick cash injections at $117,800 he averages a handy 71 from his 2 matches. Of course one more match and his price will rocket and if he can just put together another 70 he should shoot straight to 150k and it's only onwards and upwards from there.

Clint Bizzle (Melb): After a very patchy couple of years with injuries resulting in his bargin Dream Team price Clint will hopefully be able to put some good footy together this year. With scores of 42 and 80 giving him a 61 average to date he would make a very handy reserve as he is likely to maintain his spot and level out at about a 60-65 average for the season. His price sits at $127,600 and will continue to rise up to the mid to low 200's.

Mitch Clark (Bris): Obvious one I know but how could I leave him out Bris fans have been waiting for his return after a promising start to his career was hampered by injuries. Arrive he did with 5 goals in a loosing team against Collingwood. With minimal forward options other than Brown and the high wraps put on Clark he is likely to play the rest of the season and should take his price tag of 177k up to the 250k mark if his current form continues.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6328626750389504988.post-9038529381209159582007-05-10T12:47:00.000+10:002007-05-10T12:57:49.491+10:00Cash Cows Of the weekCleve Hughes: Cleve played just 3 games last season with out having a major impact but did show signs that he had plenty of talent. In his 2 matches this season he has Dream Team scores of 72 against West Coast and 87 in the thumping dished out by the Cats. With an Average of 79.5 and a price tag of just $89,000 Hughes could provide a great cash injection as well as be a handy reserve for the season ahead. Especialy seeing as Richmond have written off the season and have adopted a youth policy.

Ricky Petterd: I won't say to much about Ricky as I spoke about him after his first up performance but if you are looking for a hand Centre that will make you some good dollars. Look no further averaging 86 and coming off a massive 101 last week his price will sky rocket so it's now or never if you intend to add hime to your Dream Team.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com3
